Today's out-takes.

My kids and I had some fun taking pictures today. The girls were playing doctor. I thought I would share some out takes from today, instead of my edited photos that you will be able to see somewhere else. These were just some fun shots, SOOC.

Brianne's Photo

Brianne was nice enough to send me one of her photos to critique today. :) I really couldn't find anything wrong with it. I did take out some of the blue refelction that was reflected across both eyes. I also lightened them a bit, so we could see the brown. I took out some of the red hue, and burned the edges of the photo to make it look a bit more dramatic. That's about it though. If anyone else wants to send me a photo to critique, you can email me. jhughesphotography@sbcglobal.net.

First Blog Critique

I've offered to do some blog critiques. My first victim is Tiffany. :) First of all...I love this photo. I love the girls expression. It fits well with the dark background and the black and white editing. The cropping is a little tough with this one. The legs are cut off, which Tiff knows. :) Since she didn't get the feet in the frame, I would do a closer crop. The example that I show gives it a vertical composition and the legs aren't cut in half. Now...everyone may not prefer this crop, so I would love any opinions, and I'm sure that Tiff would love opinions as well. I also got rid of some of the white specks in the background, to simplify it a bit more. The only other suggestion that I would have is to lighten the iris of the eye, just a touch, so that the viewer can see the difference between the pupil and the iris.
The photo is gorgeous. The black and white tones are deep and rich, wich I love. The girl is adorable in her tutu, and I love the off center crop. It will be fun if we could get some more opinions/critiques on this. It will be a good way to learn...for all of us. :)

Dale Ann has kindly offerered one of her photos for critique. Once again...I love this photo. She looks so comfortable. Her pose, her smile, I can hear her laughter. The only problem that I had with this photo is the crop. It seemed a bit static since she was right in the center. The only changes that I made to this photo is the crop.

I'm not sure how to put these photos, in the blog, so for reference, Tiff's photo is the mono, and Dale Anne's is color.

Roses

I had to buy these roses when I was at the store the other day. They are such a beautiful color. I will be selling these prints on my website, and some of them will be included in my floral note cards which will be coming out in the next couple of months. I love photographing flowers. It's second next to children.
Today has been busy. I'm getting new carpet Tuesday (yay!!), so I've been packing up everything and moving it into the garage. I'm worn out. :) It's a good thing my eldest daughter wanted to help. She helped me get a lot done, and she enjoyed every second of it.

Slacker!!

Yes, Tiff...I've been a slacker!! I haven't been keeping up with my blog. I apologize. Life has been hectic. Trying to keep up with 3 kids daily can wear a mother out. ;)

My store is up on my website!! www.jessicahughes.com. I will be coming out with more note cards soon. Right now there is one set available. I can honestly say that it is a unique set, and you won't find anything like it anywhere. :) For a limited time, you will get 30% off your first purchase. So stock up!!

I took this photo of my son when he was in the tub yesterday afternoon. He just sat there like that for several seconds. I think he was tired.

Summer Treats

:) We bought a couple of watermelons at the grocery store a couple of days ago with this photo in mind. They are against the shed that is in our backyard (same shed that my girls painted a couple of years ago). As someone pointed out, my eldest does look at what she eats before she puts it in her mouth. Especially if we are outside. She doesn't want any bugs hopping on before she bites in. My little guy couldn't care less. ;)
When they're bellies were full of watermelon they jumped into the kiddie pool to get 'unsticky'. :)

Photos from the 4th

Here are some photos from the 4th of July. The kids had a great time. The girls got to swim and my little guy was able to chase cats around. We never did get to see any fireworks. It started raining at dusk, then the wind picked up.
We may light some tonight, so hopefully I'll get some cute pictures then. :)

Done Painting

I'm finally done painting my bathroom. I went to get my kids on Monday, came back today. It's good to have them back home. I have some pictures to work on from our short trip, but I'll get to them tomorrow. I took these two floral photos on Sunday. :) Yellow, to brighten your day.
